Valentine's Day Potluck

At Saint Andrew's United Church on Bloor between Yonge and Church. For complete directions on how to get there, parking, new admission fees, etc., please go here. We will be in the Central Room on the 1st floor.

We are now starting at 6pm, with dinner commencing promptly at 7pm.

We will be featuring a new Asian talent who will treat us to some timely classic love songs for Valentine's.

There will also be a Chinese (Lunar) New Year motif to the Potluck. Welcome to the Year of the Tiger! We will be holding a Chinese New Year raffle: 50/50 draw, tickets for a loonie! This is an LYC fundraiser that we hope you will all participate in.

Japanese Lunch

Looking for company this coming weekend? Look no further. Japanese lunch at Sushi Supreme at Yonge and Wellesley. Ed, our President, will be hosting this nice lunch close to the village. Excellent Japanese food with excellent prices - bento boxes are no more than $10. We will request separate bills and reserve the table that is shaped like a boat and seats at least 10 people. The address is 543 Yonge St., next to LCBO. Come and enjoy a more intimate LYC lunch gathering.

Come to the restaurant at 12 noon, Ed will be looking out for you when you arrive.

These member hosted events tend to be smaller get togethers compared to the Club Potlucks. It's a good opportunity to get to know a smaller group of people. We usually spend a couple of hours chatting over lunch and sometimes stroll around the neighbourhood afterwards if the weather co-operates.

Message from your Long Yang Santa: Ho ho ho ho! to all my friends at LYC. I will be paying you guys a visit to bring you tidings for the holidays. Those who have been good will receive nice gifts from me, while those who have been naughty...well...because I'm an equal opportunity Santa...will equally deserve some gifts as well. In fact, the naughtier you are the better is your chance in winning a gift prize. As you know, I love bad boys. Here's one condition, you better be a LYC-Toronto member to be part of my Christmas raffle draw. If you are not, become one. Japanese Lunch

John B. will be hosting lunch at Sushi Supreme, 543 Yonge St. (on the East side, next to the St. Marc Spa).

Lunch specials are $5.99 and $6.99. Drinks extra, and we will ask for separate bills.They have sushi, sashimi, maki, bento boxes, and salmon fried rice.

Our featured guest will be John Renwick. John will be giving a talk entitled Nudity and Naked Reality. He explains: "To be fully exposed is the goal of Buddhism, but it is painful to be so - I cover up again and again."

Pub night at Zipperz - hosted by Robin.

Zipperz is located at 72 Carlton St. (Church & Carlton). There is a piano bar in front and a dance club in the back. No cover charge.

What better way to enjoy the weekend than by hanging out with your LYC friends on a Saturday night. We will hang out, have drinks by the piano bar, listen to some Broadway/Judy Garland/Barbra Streisand/even Celine Dion songs. Later in the night, we will move slowly to the dance floor just to let it go and show our groove thing to the latest club music.

We will start meeting at 9 pm at the bar section of Zipperz by the piano area. Robin will be there to meet you. Around 11 pm or whenever the dancing starts, we will slowly move to the dance floor area. You can stay for as late as you want. So, come on everyone, put an end to your workweek blues, join us for some socializing, drinking, music and dancing!

End of Summer Picnic at Hanlan's Point

Weather concerns: the picnic WILL go ahead if the weather is just marginal. It will only be cancelled at the last minute if it is pouring with rain.

Join us for a lunch-time picnic and afternoon fun on the Toronto Islands at Hanlan's Point.

Meet at 12:30pm at the Hanlan's Point Ferry Dock on the City side. The ferry leaves for Hanlan's Point at 12.45pm.

PLEASE LEAVE ENOUGH TIME TO BUY YOUR TICKET FOR THE FERRY, IN CASE THERE'S A LINE-UP!

Note to those on bikes: you ARE allowed to take your bike on the ferries at the weekends - except for the Centre Island ferry.

For those of you who miss the boat, take the ferry to Hanlan's Point then walk to the right. We plan on finding a spot on the grass somewhere between the ferry dock and the clothing optional beach.

It's a picnic - not a potluck - so bring what you want to eat and drink yourself: we will not be providing pop for this event.

Also, please bring frisbees, roller blades, beach balls, etc. if you want some fun and games after the food!

This month we are pleased to welcome speakers from ACAS (Asian Community AIDS Services). They will be sending representatives from Men's Sexual Health, as well as their Settlement Program for Asian LGBT newcomers to Canada.

Sid, our Membership Director for the past nine years sadly passed away on June 17th. His friends will be gathering to remember and celebrate Sid's life. If you are not on our mailing list and would like to attend, please email us for the location and time.

Swimming Pool Party hosted by Bun and Wayne

Members Only. No guests unless personally invited by Bun or Wayne. Number of attendees will be limited to 30 and advance registration is required. Members will be advised by email when registration is open. If you were thinking of becoming a member, or have let your membership lapse, now's the time to join or renew!

At Harbour Square (Queens Quay and Bay, next to Ferry Terminal) *.

Meet at Bun's place no later than 3:15pm. Late-comers will not be able to get in, as Bun has to take people to the pool. There will be soft drinks and snacks. The Pool Party will last about a couple of hours and then those who have signed up for it will go for dinner at a nice little private restaurant in the building (cost maybe around $20 for appetizer and entree). After dinner there is the option of joining Bun and Wayne for desserts at their place.

Once registration is open, please email us at lyc.toronto@sympatico.ca to let us know that you wish to attend (first come, first served!) and (1) whether you will be swimming, (2) if you will be staying for dinner so that a reservation can be made with the restaurant, and (3) if you will be going for desserts afterwards.

This month we are pleased to welcome Scott Ferguson, Executive Director of Inside Out, together with a colleague, to give an illustrated talk about the film festival. Inside Out is Toronto's LGBT Film and Video Festival and is now in its 19th year. Inside Out starts on May 14th.

There will be a door prize for LYC members in attendance!
